Stars and their Stripes

Breton stripes. Yes, that’s what they are called ladies! The horizontal striped shirt. Let me give you a quick history lesson – not long I promise. The Breton stripe originated in a French province called Brittany. The long-sleeved shirt has a boat neck and the stripes begin at the breastbone. Breton stripes actually look great on any body type. The Breton striped shirt is in my opinion a wardrobe stable; they comfy and casual, easy to wear and generally well priced.

Stripes have achieved the coveted position of longevity with celebs and fashion runways alike. The stars just love the stripy look; usually the classic black and white horizontal stripes.

There comes a time when a trend eventually crosses over and becomes a fashion staple – nautical stripes have done exactly this. The stripes we are wearing today are laced with tradition, encompassing inspirations from Brigitte Bardot, the former fashion model and Edie Sedgwick the former American actress, socialite and model. They also play on past trends such as the nautical and preppy movements.

Cyclical’ is often a word used to describe the fashion industry as old trends often come back into style and who isn’t pleasantly surprised when an old favourite pops back onto the fashion radar? Hello, did someone say aviators??

This look is perfect for a day out paired denim shorts, gladiator sandals and aviators. For a more casual look, team your stripes with a hot pair of jeans. For the evening, glam up this look with black shorts and heels and add some bling jewellery. What are you waiting for ladies? Get shopping! 
